This news story was broadcast on Morning Edition on National Public Radio in 2008. Christopher Joyce discusses the difficulties faced by those urging Americans to become more environmentally conscious and energy efficient. Joyce describes what happens when oil prices go up: suddenly people are concerned about their fuel consumption. However, as soon as prices begin to go down, we forget all of our previous concerns. The main challenge is how to make energy efficiency seem like a smart choice rather than a sacrifice.
